our story

The Black Codes Art purpose is to honor the struggles and resilience of Black people who endured the cruelty of segregation and discriminatory laws. Those unjust laws tried to dehumanize and strip away their dignity and rights. These laws told Blacks where to live, where to work, and even who to love. But Black people persevered through that dark chapter with courage and faith.

By framing those very laws that aimed to oppress, Black Codes Art reclaims that power and remain woke and progressive. We transform instruments of hatred into emblems of triumph over injustice. Each african american art framed law becomes a scar story, reminding us not just of the pain inflicted, but of the strength that carried people forward. Looking at those framed reminders, we draw inspiration to continue the march toward true equality.

Today, as we look back on those days of struggle, we refuse to let them define us. Instead, we reclaim our narrative. We take those once oppressive laws and frame them as testaments to strength and resilience. Black Codes Art has a clear purpose – to shine a light to educate, empower, showcase black artists, and honor the struggle.

We are a 100% Black-owned business based in Houston Texas. The company was started by Morgan at Florida A&M University with the help of her father and brother Harrison. Morgan is responsible for marketing and operations and Harrison is responsible for historical research and content creation.

Love the throw back to the old Jim Crow laws. Made me sad to think that is how people were forced to live. Worth the spend.
